Stafford College hosts Creative Networking Event for Higher Education students
3rd April 2018
On Wednesday 28 March, students studying the Foundation Degree in Contemporary Creative Practice and the BA (Hons) Contemporary Creative Practice (Top-Up) at Stafford College, took part in a Creative Networking Event designed to provide students about to embark on their careers as artists, the opportunity to network and make new contacts with local creatives within the industry.
The schedule for the day included an array of guest speakers such as Katie Leonard, Art & Design Lecturer from Staffordshire University and Dorota Wiernikowska, Projects Officer from Be Inspired at Staffordshire University, who both talked about funding and resources available for budding artists who are keen to launch a career within the creative industry. Lucy Hinton, Manager at Newcastle-under-Lyme College’s M.A.D.E Here shop, based in Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre, who discussed the process of selling artwork of past and present students.
The students also took part in two interactive workshops, one from Surface Pattern Designer, Sarah Greatley and the other from Freelance Marketing Manager, Lyndsay Martin, who ran an interactive presentation discussing the importance of branding and online marketing as a freelance artist.
On discussing the success of the event, Amy Davies, Curriculum Leader in Higher Education and Foundation Diploma Arts at Stafford College, said: “The event was a really worthwhile experience for the students and we received incredibly positive feedback from them. Our students felt that they had gained a real insight into what it was like to actually work in the creative industries, the available support on offer as well as providing them with an excellent opportunity to developing their networking skills, liaising with industry professionals and peers from other year groups.”
