Struggling with the cost of full-time education?
The 16-19 Bursary Fund is here to help:

What does a bursary consist of?

There are 2 types of Bursary: guaranteed and discretionary - Guaranteed bursaries of at least £1,200 per year are provided for young people most in need including:

  • care leavers
  • those in care (looked after)
  • those in receipt of Income Support
  • disabled learners in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability
  • Living Allowance

Discretionary bursaries are payable to young people whose family income is less than £21K per year.

How are bursaries paid to young people?
Bursary awards involve ‘in kind’ payments to cover the following costs of study rather than cash:

  • travel to and from College
  • kit/equipment/course materials
  • essential visits

For learners receiving guaranteed bursaries of £1,200 any balance of funds remaining are paid directly into their bank account on a monthly basis. Learners receiving discretionary bursaries who pay £1 per journey using the new ‘Your Staffordshire Card’ will have these costs reimbursed directly to their bank account, payable monthly in advance. To find out more about the Bursary fund, talk to your tutor, ring Student Services on 01785 275433 or visit: www.direct.gov.uk/16-19bursary
