| Entry Requirements | Applicants must be working within a health/welfare/social care setting. In addition you will need to have one of the following minimum entry requirements: • NVQ level 3 in a health or social care related subject • BTEC National or GNVQ/AVCE in a health or social care related subject • Ideally, students should have two-years professional experience Exceptions may be made for mature students with relevant experience and alternate qualifications. |

| Course Progression | This course is designed to enable people to work in a professional capacity in social care and it incorporates the knowledge, understanding and skills required for progression into employment or into further study. The course has been designed to respond to the changing workforce needs in line with the Government agenda and addresses the multi-disciplinary and partnership working approaches of social care. |
| Career Prospects | On completion of the award students may progress into employment or onto further study. Successful students may be eligible for entry to the Professional Social Work Degree or to the top-up year of a BA (Hons). |
| Course Content | The course has been designed to deliver relevant, contemporary knowledge and skills designed to enhance practice and career pathways. Core modules will include the subject areas of Care Values, Theories and Process, Communication Skills for Social Care, including Study Skills and IT, Legislation and Professional Practice, Social Policy and Social Context. There will also be optional modules which allow the learner to explore social care issues that are of particular interest to them. |
| Assessment | Teaching will combine lectures with learner led seminars, group exercises and experiential work. Assessment will be via a variety of strategies to meet differing learner needs such as written assignments and oral presentations. A Professional Practice module will be assessed through a mixture of written work, observations in the workplace and professional development profile. |
