Course Name*Foundation Degree in Contemporary Art Practice: Pathway in Fine Art and Sculpture Full-time
Course DescriptionIf you are interested in working commercially or setting up your own practice, this course will enable you pursue your ideas in and around the area of painting, mixed media and sculpture. It combines practical work with theoretical study plus live work-based practise. This course is offered in partnership with Staffordshire University.
Entry RequirementsStudents should be at least 18 with a minimum of 80 UCAS points achieved through one of the following: BTEC National Diploma/Certificate in Art and Design related subjects; GNVQ Advanced in Art and Design; Diploma in Foundation Studies: Art & Design ; /A2 Levels in Art and Design subjects; or relevant industrial experience. Special consideration will be given to mature students without these qualifications and those with relevant work experience. Selection is by interview to which you will be asked to bring along examples of your art and design work.

Career ProspectsThis broad-based programme allows students to pursue their ideas in and around the areas of Painting, Mixed Media and Sculpture. It will prepare you to set up a fine art practice, to begin working commercially or in a social or community context, through fine art galleries and art fairs or to work for a corporate or public based client through commissions.
Successful students wishing to progress to an Honours Degree may apply to take the final year of an appropriate degree at Staffordshire University or any other university in the UK.
Course ContentPractical work is fundamental to the delivery of this programme and you will have the opportunity to explore the possibilities of 2 and 3 dimensional approaches, drawing, painting, print, sculpture and community art.
You will participate in live projects, such as gallery work and commissional artwork for specific clients or target audiences and will develop the skills to undertake client liaison and negotiation. You will learn research, visual recording and presentation skills so that you can express yourself clearly, whilst contextual and professional understanding will ensure you are able to apply your practical skills and promote your creative work to new and existing markets.
AssessmentWork is continually assessed throughout the course. The course culminates in an end of year show.
