| Course Description | Course Outline The Hospitality route of the BTEC Vocational course results in the vocational qualification called the BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Exploring the Hospitality Industry. This course has been designed as a progression for learners who have achieved a majority of E – G grades at GCSE’s, or completed an Entry 3 level course and need a supported environment to continue with their studies. The aim of the course is to familiarise learners with qualities needed to move onto a full Level 1 or a Level 2 provision in their chosen area. Course Structure This qualification is made up of 2 mandatory units plus optional units. The main focus of the qualification is to give students an introduction into the preparation, cooking and serving of food and drink. The students will work with support in our training restaurant and have experience of serving real customers, and work in our industry standard kitchens where they will be taught the basics of preparing and cooking food for customers. Course Content Mandatory units: • Introduction to the Hospitality Industry • Customer Service in the Hospitality Industry Optional units: • Basic Food preparation and cooking • Using Kitchen Equipment • Introduction to food commodities • Serving Food • Preparing and serving Drinks In addition the following Functional Skills: • English 6 Credits • Maths 6 Credits • ICT 4 Credits And: • Workskills 17 Credits On completion of the course learners will achieve a BTEC Vocational Certificate in their chosen route, an Award in Functional skills for Maths, English and ICT and a Certificate in Workskills. Confidence building and strategies for personal development will be taught alongside their qualifications. Some units will be taught by the staff of the LLDD team and other units by the vocational staff.
