Course DescriptionThis course run in association with Staffordshire University has been designed by employers to meet the needs of industry and commerce.

It is a skills-based programme, which covers the many aspects of operating in a business environment and of how people relate in a work place. It explains how costing and accounting practices can be used, how an organisation is structured, managed and analysed. It also examines the roles of Marketing and Human Resources and how they interrelate with other departments to ensure business success.

In the second year, the modules studied include:

• Critical Reasoning in Management

Also during the two years study you will be actively developing skills that will enhance your professional role at work.

Course DurationThis is a two-year programme. The timetable will be set over three days per week.
Entry RequirementsApplicants must be over 18 years of age, sufficiently competent in English and numeracy skills to cope with the demands of the course and have one of the following:
• A BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Business and Finance
• Another BTEC National Certificate/Diploma qualification plus appropriate induction/conversion
• At least one ‘A’ Level plus three ‘O’ Levels/GCSE’s at grades A, B or C
• For mature students (over 21 years of age) with relevant work experience, academic requirements may be waived. Enquiries should be directed to the Course Manager.

Each applicant will be assessed on individual merits and in exceptional circumstances, entrants not satisfying the above entry requirements, whom the course team feel would be likely to cope with and benefit from the course, may be admitted.

AssessmentStudents are set in-course and either final assignments or examinations for each unit of the course, with a pass necessary following completion of the assignment programme for all modules.
Course ProgressionThe BTEC Higher National Diploma can also lead to further studies such as a degree course or other professional and managerial qualifications such as those offered by the Institute of Marketing, Chartered Institute of Personnel Development and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

The BTEC Higher National Diploma is recognised throughout industry and commerce as an important qualification for administrative and management careers and can help to enhance promotion prospects.

Staffordshire University offers all students an automatic place to top up their qualification to a BA (Hons) Degree in Business Administration. The ‘fast track’ top up is 12 months for those students who achieve a Merit profile for the HND with an 18-month conversion also being available.
