Course DescriptionThe BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to employment in an animal care environment and provides a good basis to go onto a more advanced
work-related qualification.

Entry RequirementsA minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grade D or E including Maths or Science. A keen interest in animals is essential.

AssessmentYou will be assessed through continuous assignment work using a variety of methods including some work based experience/placements.
Course ProgressionThe BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSE’s grade A* - C and is a nationally recognised qualification which will enable you to enter employment in one of a variety of types of animal care environments. Opportunities can include kennels/cattery assistant, pet store assistant and pet grooming.

Alternatively you could progress onto one of the BTEC National Diploma courses in Applied Science or an Animal Management course. Students would need to achieve an overall distinction for progression onto the BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science.
