Course DescriptionIn the early stages, students from all four courses learn together, gaining an introduction to a wide range of art and design subjects. After this initial experience students begin to make choices about which areas most interest them.

All students will be involved in the following: colour studies, drawing, fashion design, graphic design, painting, photography, sculpture, textiles and three-dimensional design. In addition, all students study contemporary and historical art and design and cultural studies. As students progress through the course they will move towards one of the four areas of study, dedicating most of their time in college to their special area of interest.

Students will be offered the opportunity to take part in visits. Some of these will be the basis for practical work and some will be to museums, art galleries and other places of cultural interest. A foreign study tour is offered in the second year.

Entry RequirementsStudents need four GCSEs at A, B or C grade, a First Diploma in Art and Design or equivalent qualification. Consideration will be given to people without formal entry qualifications if they have relevant work experience or possess exceptional ability in art and design.
AssessmentStudents progress is continually monitored with formal assessment of practical and written work. At the end of the course students display their work in a final exhibition.
Course ProgressionEntry to BA, Foundation Degree or HND courses in a range of Art & Design subjects, for example; Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion, Photography, 3D Design, Textiles, Illustration, Sculpture. Also, jobs in graphic design, fashion, photography or other art related employment.
