Our equality and diversity policy is there to support you in your College life, regardless of:
- race
- ethnic origin
- gender
- sexual orientation
- colour
- disability
- religion
- age
...or any other aspect of who you are
Our equality and diversity policy commits us to ensuring that nobody who studies, trains or works here experiences less favourable treatment or discrimination. You can pick-up a copy of our equality and diversity policy statement or our Accessibility Statement from Student Services. Both statements can be found on the College intranet and are also available in a larger format, on tape or in another language on request.
Disabilities
Stafford College has been awarded the right to use the ‘two ticks’ emblem indicating that we are positive about disabled people. We are committed to providing sector-leading facilities for all those learning or working here and have already carried out wide-ranging improvements to the campus to improve accessibility for disabled people.
Striving for real equality means even more than building a better campus. It is about creating real equality of opportunity. We are working towards this through our commitment to:
- promote equality of opportunity between disabled people and other people
- eliminate unlawful discrimination
- promote positive attitudes towards disabled people
- eliminate disability related harassment
- encourage participation by disabled people in public life
- take account of disabled people’s disabilities, even where that involves treating a disabled person more favorably than other people
If you consider that you have a disability it is important to inform the College as early as possible, so that we can help you to get the most out of your learning. Please feel free to read a copy of the college Disability Equality Scheme. For help at any time during your course, contact your tutor or the team in the Additional Support Unit (room E124) telephone 01785 275555.
Gender equality
As a leading centre for education and training, one of the area’s largest employers and a cornerstone of the local community, Stafford College has a duty to eliminate unlawful discrimination and gender-related harassment and to promote equality of opportunity between men and women.
The College has a gender equality policy and procedure to prevent direct abuse, comments or actions that make people feel uncomfortable, bullied or embarrassed because of their gender or because of gender re-assignment. Additionally, we will:
- Monitor the environment in which students and staff work, to remove any gender bias in resources and to make sure that the College is equally welcoming to everyone
- Identify areas of gender imbalance and different levels of achievement and take positive action to address these where possible
- Monitor inclusion and success rates by gender and ensure that there is no gender bias in the advice, training and support we give to students or in the employment, payment and promotion of our staff.
